Planning: Influences

Influences

Our idea for our film opening has been inspired by the film My Murder which is based on a true story. However, we have created a twist on our storyline by making our main character a female which isn't a common occurrence in Urban youth films as they usually all feature and focus on a male protagonist.

We have also been inspired other UK urban youth films such as kidulthood, and Top Boy.

The film will be an independent low budget production because the quality of our film wont be up to standard to Mainstream films. Also our film will be urban drama because we felt that we would be more easily able to portray an urban film as group are primarily from urban areas all over London therefore we would easily able to represent it.

The companies that we want to produce our films are Swirl films or fierce productions who are known to produce Urban films. Swirl films is also the number 1 urban film production company,

Our distributors are anchor bay who have distributed films such HoneyTrap.

Blogging Health Check 1

26 posts

From my teachers feedback I have caught up on my blogposts and that I need to keep it up!
I should also keep blogging 2-3 posts a week so that I wont keep falling behind. I need to make sure my blogs are as strong as my group blogposts and not keep things empty, I need to go back and complete them.
The presentation of my blogpost need work on, as I have to be more creative with my blog design and my ICT use. I should add GIFs so that my still images come to life without having to create videos. Also I need to make sure the group posts reflect all four of our work. Some of the posts lack sufficient detail. Also I should only use slideshows when using lots of photos.

Planning no.17- Practical remake activity - Evaluation

Practical Remake Activity: Room for Romeo Brass - Evaluation

For the filming of this film I could not come in for personal issues, this probably made things a little difficult for my group members.
By the looks of it my group member had pulled the remake off. The title sequences font was quite similar to the original. Finding a similar font must have been difficult however Helen had done a good job of it. The font goes with the whole idea of it being for a youth orientated audience, as it was not colourful but bold and simple. It is not too childish and goes on with mature but not too mature theme. My group had chosen to do a discrete title sequence rather than what was originally planned and what was in the original title sequence, which was a narrative title sequence.

No.16 Practical remake - Planning- Research.

Planning of Room for Romeo brass

For the planning of this remake I had watch the opening title sequence and write down the dialogue of the characters.

(Walking through field)

Research no.15- Individual post - analysis of camera, editing, sound and miss en scene

Camera
The opening title sequence starts off with close ups of different objects such as cigarettes and drugs, it emphasises issues involving in youth dramas. This gives us an idea of what this high school drama will about. There are also many mid shots giving us ideas of the background, where it will be located etc. They also used panning, when showing the bullets, suggesting that the film would involve guns.

Editing
Fast motion cutting to show different thing happening, makes the audience feel ecstatic, sometimes it can take you by surprise.

Sound
Sound bridge is used through out the opening title sequence in order to link each scene and to make sense of what is happening. Synchronous sound is also used throughout the title sequence as it is an energetic and fun song it goes with the fast pace editing of the sequence.

Mise en Scene
A location is shown, an office suggesting that the characters are based in an office. Police cars are used suggesting that there are police getting involved using guns suggesting their is violence. Bright light suggesting the youthfulness and comedic vibe of the film. The bright colours suggests that the film is for young audiences.

Sub - Gebre conventions: Camera, Editing, Sound and Mise en Scene.

Youth Drama

My Brother The Devil

Camera
Mid shot is used to show the audience the body language of each character, it is used quite often in order to express the mood of each character. Close ups are also used quite a lot, when trying to show the facial expressions of each character, sometimes even used to dramticise moments. Another shot used in the opening is an establishing shot, to establish where the film would be based on, council estates. This gives the audience an idea of what the film would be about.

Editing
Slow motion is used at the beginning when their are peaceful moments, when the younger brother is cycling to his brother. This lift the mood up and gives off a happy feeling. Cross cutting is also used in order to show different parts, such as when Mo is cycling to Rashid and when Rashid is the boxing gym place. There are also various parts where still shots are used to show pictures of gang culture, this gives the viewer an idea of what the film would be about.

Sound
Dialogue is used when the brother are talking to one another and when Mo is coming out of his class and in front of gates, chatter around him from other students. Ambient sound is used throughout the opening.

Mise en Scene
Bright colours are used during the school, suggesting the happiness of school ending, this contrasts the still shots of the gang pictures where the pictures are quite dark and dull. Mo is wearing his school uniform as he coming back from his last day of school and Rashid is waking tracksuits, this is common wear of what men would wear in ghetto.

No.10- Research - target audience research

Target audience

What is a target audience ?
A target audience is who the film makers believe are most suitable to watch their film. This could depend on what the film is about, who is in the film, where it is located, female or male audience members etc.
Teen dramas appeal more to female then males because most high school based teen films are dramatised and are relatable for females. Most teen films are about girls.
Teen dramas can also appeal to adults because they would feel nostalgic about their experiences during high school
